N6OX, Bob Grimmick A relative new comer to amateur radio and DXing as I was first licensed in 1998. During my high school years I was introduced to short wave listening when my father gave me a Hallicrafters radio. After many years of dreaming about amateur radio a good friend challenged me to get my license and within less than a year I successfully completed all examinations for my extra class license. Since then I have had the very good fortune of participating in several DXpeditions as well as extensive traveling and meeting other amateur operators.
I am a partner in a commercial real estate development company in southern California and live in Rainbow, California about 70 kilometers north of San Diego, CA. Married to Nancy with two sons, Bob and Chris.
DXpeditions:
3Y0X – Peter I
Clubs: San Diego DX Club, Southern California DX Club, NCDXF, ARRL,

N6HC, Arnie Shatz DXPEDITION EXPERIENCE: K7C (Kure Atoll) – 2005, 3B7C (St. Brandon) - 2007 FOREIGN OPERATIONS: Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Prince Edward Island OTHER CALLS: KN3ANU, K3ANU, WB5ICL, WB6YHE CLUB MEMBERSHIPS: Southern California Contest and DX Clubs Arnie was first licensed as KN3ANU at the age of 13 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He quickly upgraded to a General Class ticket (K3ANU) and received an Official Relay Station (ORS) appointment from the ARRL and so began his love of CW traffic handling. This ARRL voluntary position allowed him to participate in the league’s sponsored CD party contests fueling his enjoyment of radiosport. After four years of amateur radio activity he put the hobby into hibernation while he attended Temple University and earned a B.S. in Biology and a M.D. degree. There was little time for playing amateur radio during his post medical school specialty training in Urology at the University of California, San Francisco (WB6YHE), and two years of service as a Lt. Cmdr. in the United States Public Health Service, Indian Health Service, on the Navajo and Hopi reservations (WB5ICL). He moved to Southern California in 1976 with his wife (KA6DOW) and son (N6COG) and started a solo private urology practice. Arnie’s interest in amateur radio was rekindled. He upgraded to the Extra Class license in 1977 as N6HC. He retired from full time urology practice in 2001 and continued practicing as a part-time locum tenens physician. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a long time member of the California and Orange County Medical Associations, a diplomate of the American Board of Urology and a member of both the American Urological Association and the Western Section of the AUA as well as the California Urological Association. He was a member of the clinical faculty of Loma Linda University School of Medicine. Arnie has been an ARRL member for more than forty years. He serves as a Field QSL card checker for both ARRL and CQ awards. He is an active member of the Southern California DX and contest clubs. He is a member of the A-1 operators club and has earned many ARRL operating awards including WAS (5 bands, SSB, CW, RTTY), DXCC Honor Roll, DXCC (8 bands, SSB, CW, RTTY), WAZ (CW & SSB), WAC and VUCC. He is an active contester and has won numerous certificates for participation in both domestic and DX competitions. He has operated from many places around the continental United States as well as in Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico and Prince Edward Island. One of his ham radio goals was to be part of a Dxpedition team to an exotic locale. The opportunity presented itself in mid 2005 on the K7C operation to Kure atoll in the far northwest Hawaiian Island chain. The adventure was addictive and in September, 2007, he will be part of the 3B7C Dxpedition to St. Brandon Island in the Indian Ocean. On this trip he will serve as both operator and medical officer.

K6SGH, Steve Hammer Licensed in 2001 and upgraded to extra in 2003, Steve is a relative newcomer to ham radio. A retired financial services professional, Steve devotes quite a bit of time to ham radio. He enjoys operating from a variety of interesting and odd locations around California and the southwest. He's operated from the lowest point in the western hemisphere (Devil's Golf Course -283f), operated from inside the San Andreas Fault in the Carrizzo Plain, driven half the length of Route 66 operating as W6B, two Nojoqui Tarantula Migration DXpeditions (2006 covered by the New York Times), as well as inagurating the "CQ Diablo" radio event. These and other ham activities are featured on his website at k6sgh.com. He is also the webmaster for the MoxonAntennaProject.com and has supported that site since 2003. He was the webmaster and chief pilot for K7C, Kure Atoll Dxpedition and he is the webmaster for the TX5C site as well. But he longs for the tortuous hours in some smelly remote desert island with threatening crabs. Having met John, N7CQQ (part of K7C), Steve jumped at the chance to join the TX5C DXpedition as an SSB operator. Steve and his wife Amy live in Santa Barbara, Ca.

FM5CD, Michel Brunelle
Michel was introduced to amateur radio in 1965 when he was in Germany doing his military service. He was able to listen to the old Siemens receiver of the radio club DL5SQ. He passed his licence in 1967 and received his first callsign F6AGM. As an active member of F6KAW radio club near Paris, he became involved in DXing and contesting. He participated in the 25th French Polar Expedition in Adelie Land, staying the whole winter in Dumont d'Urville base, and operated with his callsign FB8YC from December 1974 to March 1976. Just before the 1978 expedition in Clipperton, (FO0XA-FO0XH) he went to Saudi Arabia, did not participate to the expedition and due to restriction, could not get a 7Z licence. In 1979, after two years in the desert, he went to Martinique for his job in construction. He obtained two different callsigns (FM0FJE and FM7CD) until 1985 when new prefixes were assigned to the extra-class licencees. He got the call FM5CD that he's still using today. He also participated in many contests, in French Guyana and Martinique with specials callsigns (TX0A, TX2B, TO5A, TO5M, TO2DX) and won several awards and plaques during this time. In February 2006, he participated in the 3Y0X expedition in Peter One Island co-lead by Ralph K0IR and Bob K4UEE. During ten days, the team operated from the glacier and made over 87.000 Q's. On his return trip, the team stopped at King George Island, South Shetlands group. Michel and few other team members operated the Russian base station and made thousands of QSOs using the callsign XR9A. Michel is proud and excited to be a team member of the new major expedition in St Bandon – he is sure that 3B7C is a rich and fun experience. The next major expedition will be in Clipperton.

He has operated from over 30 DXCC entities. Outside of DX trips, more time is spent listening and playing on the workbench than actually operating; however, he is on the DXCC Honor Roll and is active mainly on 30 & 20 m CW. Jay is past president and treasurer of the SW OH DX Association. He has moderated the DX forum at the Dayton HamVention ® for the past few years as well as the DX dinner sponsored that same weekend. He has been married to his ham friendly wife, Gwynna, for over 40 years, has two grown daughters and seven grandchildren. Many of Jay’s DX operations have centered on his layman involvement in church mission activities - several of which have involved doing communications installations for missionaries or Christian broadcast stations. He is vice president of a small nondenominational missions organization. He has goals of hiking the Appalachian Trail and riding his bicycle from the US west coast to east coast. Jay is a graduate of the US Naval Academy and has an advanced degree from Memphis State University (aka U of Memphis). He retired four years ago from a major consumer products company headquartered in Cincinnati, OH. His last work assignment had him traveling about Western Europe, where he met many European Hams and had immense pleasure operating.
